Women’s Basketball Night: On Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. the YMCA is hosting a Women’s Basketball Night for ages 19 and over to see if there is an interest in an ongoing program. Options could be weekly pick-up games, in-house Y league, an Athol/Greenfield Y league, etc. The games could be cross court or full court depending on the number of people or what the players want. Wednesday this week will be free for all women, future nights will be free for Y member and $10 per night for others. Contact Dave at 773-3646 ext. 436.

Elks Hoop Shoot: On Saturday, Dec. 15, the YMCA is hosting the Greenfield Elks Hoop Shoot at 1 p.m. The event is free for boys and girls who will be 8-13 years old as of April 1, 2019. There will be three age groups for boys and girls. Local winners will move on to the district contest. A free hotdog and hamburger lunch will follow at the Elks Club on Federal Street. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

Free Family Fun Night Dec. 7: On Friday, Dec. 7, as part of the Greenfield Business Association’s “Jingle Fest,” the Y is providing a free family night. The GBA will have lots of downtown family activities starting at 5pm including crafts, Santa and carols – see Facebook for details. The Y activities will be from 6:15-8pm for children ages 1-12 with a parent/grandparent. Activities include gym games, hooping, obstacle course, climbing wall, crafts, gymnastics center and a swim from 7:15 to 8 p.m. There will be free pizza at 6:15 in the Y’s gym provided by local businesses. The GBA prizes will be drawn at 7:45 p.m; families must be present to win. The Y provides Family Fun Nights every Friday and Saturday with Fridays for families with Y family memberships only, while Saturdays are for Y family members and the community. MIGHTY Program: The YMCA in partnership with Baystate Children’s Hospital and Kohls Cares is now taking registrations for the MIGHTY program. The first six month program will begin in January for boys and girls ages 10-13 who struggle with weight issues. MIGHTY is a free family program that meets twice a month for two hours. For the first hour kids and parents exercise separately and during the second hour a nutritionist or a behavioral change specialist will work with the parents and children on how to eat healthy and add more movement to their daily lives. Cycling Classes: The Y now has cycling classes with 30, 45 and 60 minute options. The private room has ten bikes with fun workout routines created by a professional exercise company. Cycling is for all adults at whatever fitness level they are at. Each rider sets their own bike tension from 0 to 10+, and beginners can be next to experienced road bikers. Fee for Y members is $50 for a ten-class punch card and for non-members it is 5 classes for $60. Call 773-3646 ext. 0 for current class schedule or go to to view schedule.

Water Therapy Classes: There are openings in current classes for people with chronic pain, recovering from surgery, arthritis, and joint or weight issues. There are two levels of classes for anyone who wants or needs to exercise gently in a zero impact environment. The water provides gently resistance to build strength yet supports joints for easy movement. Classes meet Monday through Friday at 10:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. For prices, see page 13 of the brochure at Financial aid is available to cover up to 70 percent of the fees. Sliding Fee Scale: The YMCA is a nonprofit, locally funded, charity that is welcoming to all and has pricing for all. The Y’s sliding fee scale is available for all memberships and classes and can cover up to 70 percent of fees for qualified individuals and families. Fifty percent of the $450,000 utilized by local kids, seniors and families each year is provided by local generous donors to the Y’s Annual Sustaining Campaign, and the Franklin County United Way.
